Dileep Prabhakarrao Gheware
Social Activist
Dileep Prabhakarrao Gheware was born on August 20, 1965, in the small and quiet village of
Kej in Beed district of Maharashtra. Hardship and responsibility filled his growing up years
because his father, Prabhakar Rao, died when he was just 17 years old. While most boys his
age dreamt of easy, sunny days, Dileep ‘s reality was different – he accepted the challenge
quietly, and securing a job on merit in the town planning and evaluation department helped him
to provide a better life for his loved ones.
Despite this weight of responsibility, however, there was no denying Dileep’s academic promise;
he was a bright student who nurtured a dream of higher education, but duty called the shots,
and his family took precedence. He got his diploma in civil engineering and joined the year 1985
as a town planner with the Maharashtra government, which turned out to be the beginning of a
long, storied journey in public service. The first early years were spent in Aurangabad, then in
Latur and Bid, where the very sharp mind and dedication left an indelible mark.
